Chennai: A passenger identified as Arumugam, 30, from Ramanathapuram district, was caught smoking on a flight from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur, causing a significant delay. The incident occurred last night as the flight was preparing for takeoff.
Cabin crew members noticed Arumugam smoking in his seat and, despite repeated warnings from both the crew and fellow passengers, he continued to smoke. As smoking on flights is a serious safety violation, the decision was made to halt the flight.
Due to the security risk posed by Arumugam’s actions, the flight was delayed by an hour. Arumugam was subsequently offloaded from the aircraft and handed over to authorities at Chennai International Airport. He was arrested and charged with violating aviation regulations.
The flight, carrying 173 passengers, eventually took off an hour late. This incident underscores the importance of adhering to safety protocols and the severe consequences of failing to do so.
