Chennai, June 10, 2024 — In a significant move reflecting the evolving dynamics within the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin has appointed Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi as the party’s Parliamentary Party Leader. This appointment marks a notable elevation for Kanimozhi, who has been a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics and a key representative of the DMK in the Lok Sabha.
The announcement was made during a high-level party meeting held at the DMK headquarters in Chennai, where Stalin emphasized Kanimozhi’s extensive experience, leadership qualities, and her commitment to the party’s principles and the welfare of the people.
Kanimozhi, the daughter of the late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, has had a distinguished career in politics, known for her articulate speeches and her advocacy on social issues, particularly those related to women’s rights and social justice.
A release from the DMK headquarters in Chennai announced several key appointments: MP TR Baalu will serve as the party’s floor leader in the Lok Sabha, with MP Dayanidhi Maran as the deputy floor leader. Additionally, DMK’s deputy general secretary A Raja has been appointed as the party’s Whip in the Lok Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha, DMK propaganda secretary Tiruchy N Siva will be the floor leader, MP M Shanmugam the deputy floor leader, and MP P Wilson the party’s Whip. Furthermore, DMK propaganda secretary S Jagatratshagan will act as the treasurer for the DMK in both Houses of Parliament.
The DMK, one of the major political forces in Tamil Nadu, has a long history of advocacy for regional rights and social justice. With Kanimozhi at the helm of its parliamentary wing, the party aims to reinforce its influence and address the aspirations of its constituents more effectively.
